The Importance of Internal Links

You know what internal links are, right? If you don't, here is a brief understanding of what they are:
Internal links are the links within your site that link to other pages on your site. This is very important because it allows the search engine bots that roam the internet to be able to find all your information on your site.
Anybody who is in charge of a website or runs a website needs to be aware of a few easy, basic search engine tactics. If these tactics are used right, you will be able to interlink your website so that the major search engines, like Google and Yahoo will rate you higher in both PR (page rank) and the search engine results for your keyword(s) term(s). When you are developing a website, you tend to put a lot of pages that have information that is alike and pointed to a certain niche that you want to connvey to your readers. Most likely you will have basic information, news, how-to's, and specific sales pitches that will inform your visitors. Having an internal linking structure setup, will benefit your visitors and help your search engine visability. A perfect navigation structure makes the major search engines jump for joy! They will then in turn, reward you for improving the experience of your visitors. For instance, if you have a navigation structure that will allow your visitors to easily find what they are looking for, search engines will give you more page rank, index your pages more often, and rank higher your site in search results. How do you accomplish this task? Well, there are a few tactics you are able to use that will improve the linking structure. I will only cover one, but it play a major part.

Text Links Only

I am sure that you have seen websites out there that have pretty bells and whistles, or that is what I like to call them. Basically they are image or javascript links that have fancy roll-over or some kind of other effects to them. Does this really score big with the major search engines? NO it doesn't! You need to remember that the search engines robots can't follow links that are created from images or by javascript coding. You want to add simple text links that will allow the robots to be able to freely follow throughout your site and index it. Many web developers tend to want to add all of these realy cool, fancy image and javascript links to your site to add some pazzaz to it. The only thing I ask you to do is to keep an eye on them. Make sure that they are not creating your links in that manner. ~ Kyle Reddoch
