Featured Site - Yondr.com
This week's Featured Site is still a newbie. It was just launched on January 26th and has a lot of potential.
I usually wait for new sites like this to be around awhile and mature before I consider them for the Featured Site spot. I just had to make an exception for this one. This site is great for the "adventurer" in all of us.
Yondr let's us share and connect to people from around world. Considering going to a place for vacation? Check who has been there and what they say about it!
Maybe it is cycling on the rolling hills in the quiet countryside of France?
... or eating local spicy cuisine from street vendors in the alleys of Bangkok?
... or an urban ‘hike’ through the concrete jungle and museums of New York City?
... or camping overnight on the grassy plains after a sunset wildlife safari in Africa?
... or tasting fresh local ingredients as part of a culinary tour in Tuscany, Italy?
... or learning about local heritage, not from a museum but from being out there in person with Inupiat Eskimos in Alaska?
Perhaps these are things you have already done. Maybe you seek inspiration from where others have gone and what they have experienced. Or wish to share the sights and sounds of your last trip… The excitement of planning and the emotional rollercoaster you went through during the trip. Your eagerness to share your experiences with friends and family on your return. The responses you got to your travel tales. And when you were back to your daily routine, how the memories of being out there would haunt you all over again. Yet, to recreate the same magic seemed a daunting task, until now.
Yondr is not just about seeing new places, but seeing the same old places with new eyes. Yondr goes beyond Places. It’s about Experiences. About People. About You. And your connections with the world around you. Besides joining dots on the map, Yondr is the web that links you to your travel environment. The guide on your safari, the most critical asset during your holiday, ceases to be of importance once you get back to your daily grind. The interesting traveler you met whose e-mail address you jotted on a scrap of paper that was laundered with your dirty clothes, left you wishing you had kept in touch? Or that man on a mission, fighting for a cause, who you wanted to help once you got back?
Today’s travelers seek out new and authentic experiences as they immerse themselves in local cultures, nature and history. Not content sitting by the poolside; these global travelers want real experiences and locally inspired activities ranging from eco-adventure to heritage to culinary travel.
Yondr brings all this to life through multimedia publishing technologies, web widgets and blogging. The web and mobile tools are all tailored for today’s travelers to discover, publish and share their travel experiences.
