Done Drinking - iTunes App of the Week - December 22, 2008

Ever been a little intoxicated and had some difficulty making it home....just couldn't keep yourself upright and had the urge to just fall asleep right where you were? If you have experienced this scenario, then you can relate to this character, and if not; you will soon experience what it feels like to be somewhat tipsy! Done Drinking is an entertaining game that requires you to keep the male character walking a straight line and avoid falling down at all costs. If he falls down, the party is over and he will be Done Drinking and simply fall asleep! As he tries to walk a straight line, he will suck back just a little more out of his bottle which makes it all the more difficult to keep him upright. You will get 5 chances to get your longest walk score.

Features:

  • Simulation of game makes you feel as though you are this intoxicated character.
  • Sharpen your coordination skills to keep this man upright.
  • You can play by tapping the screen or by tilting.
  • Great music and sound effects add to the game play experience.

Applying CSS

There are three ways to apply CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to HTML.

In-line

In-line styles are plonked straight into the HTML tags using the style attribute. They look something like this:
p style="color:red">text</p>
This will make that specific paragraph red. But, if you remember, the best-practice approach is that the HTML should be a stand-alone, presentation free document, and so in-line styles should be avoided wherever possible.

Internal

Embedded, or internal styles are used for the whole page. Inside the head tags, the style tags surround all of the styles for the page. This would look something like this:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>CSS Example</title>
<style type="text/css">
        p {color: red;}

        a {color: blue;}
</style>
...
This will make all of the paragraphs in the page red and all of the links blue. Similarly to the in-line styles, you should keep the HTML and the CSS files separate, and so we are left with our saviour...

External

External styles are used for the whole, multiple-page website. There is a separate CSS file, which will simply look something like:
p {color: red;}

a {color: blue;}
If this file is saved as "web.css" then it can be linked to in the HTML like this:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
        <title>CSS Example</title>
        <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="web.css" />

Is Twitter for You?

Media_httpassets0twit_gycxr
I have to admit, I was a little late to the whole Twitterverse (The Twitter Community). I kept asking myself, "Is Twitter for Me?" I finally decided to join twitter after having enough of my friends and peers asking me to join. Ever since I have joined twitter (@kylereddoch), I have never regretted joining. I have benefited enormously from joining twitter and think everyone would also. Five reasons you should join twitter:

Reason 1:

It will make you a better writer. Because of Twitter’s 140 character limit, you’re forced to write concisely. This requires increased thought and better use of the English language. I believe that it can help people in coming up with slogans and marketing copy, which also must be concise.

Reason 2:

It can create traffic for your blog or Website. While I noticed a 40% uptick in my blog traffic, many people won’t see such a drastic surge. There are tools that let you automatically post your latest blog post to Twitter (Twitterfeed is what I use and love), which can help with Traffic, but these aren’t the only way to do it. Meeting new people brings visitors, as does posting interesting content. There are many ways to go, and those who use the tool most effectively will certainly see a nice bonus of traffic for their efforts.

Reason 3:

It requires a very small investment. Twitter is free to use and can require little to no time if you want. With auto-posting services (TweetLater is what I use), you can stay active in Twitter, but that’s not going to cut it in the long run. Part of building up your own community with Twitter is forging relationships, and sharing some of yourself with others. You can do this in a few short minutes - a worthwhile time commitment.

Reason 4:

Get Connected With People You Think You Should Know. Most likely everyone you want to get connected with already is on Twitter. Whether you want to get better connected with your customers, business partners or network and make new connections, Twitter is the place to do it. Networking at Twitter is less formal than LinkedIn, and it is even easier to get connected with new people at Twitter than on Facebook. If you feel you have a lot to learn about online networking, Twitter is the easiest and fastest place to learn and get started with building your network fast. Twitter is also great for those, who don’t feel comfortable sharing their bios and a lot of information right away.

Reason 5:

Get Connected With People You Never Thought You Should Know. I asked my Twitter friends (Tweeps), what was the number one reason why they thought anyone should join Twitter, and number one reason was to get to know people who they wouldn’t have gotten to know any other way. Many who have joined Twitter for business reasons have found friendships that have taken people from web to real life. There are even Twitter marriage proposals and people who have found their soul mates on Twitter. Twitter allows you to show as much or as little of your personality as you want - and to find new people you never even thought of getting to know.
There are plenty of other reasons to use twitter, but I thought that the these items brought together some of the most important ones to inspire you to get started, if you haven’t done so already. BTW - A post about Twitter wouldn’t be complete without the essential plug to join me in the Twitterverse. Be sure to follow me @kylereddoch (http://www.twitter.com/kylereddoch)!
