Recycle Me - Site of the Week - May 25, 2009

WOW this site is awesome! A friend of mine, Garret Ohm (@garretohm) brought this to my attention. I went and checked it out and immediately fell in love with it. Not only for the interactivity of it, but the message that is behind it. My Site of the Week is Recycle Me. This site gives you a virtual tour of the organs of a person that can be donated. I know what you are thinking, "Ew...that sounds gross!" That is what I thought at first but believe me this is pretty cool. You can click on each of the parts and it gives information about it. Oh, and the person you are touring the insides of talks to you! If you don't catch the message, here it is. This site is to persuade people and educate people about the importance of organ donation and how many lives can be saved by donating your organs. So head on over to Recycle Me, get your hands dirty, and join the movement today! Let's save lives. ~ Kyle Reddoch

The Secret Password for Customer Service

I want to share with you some great information that I found out purely by accident. I believe it can also save and create jobs in America while giving people better customer service. So how many times have you called a companies service phone line and found that the rep. can barely speak English? Once with a major credit card company it was so bad I demanded to speak with someone who spoke English. Right at that moment I broke the code, the secret password for customer service. Come to find out that every American company using overseas operators must transfer you to an American rep. by saying..." I want to speak to a representative in America "...(Don't take no for an answer on this) This was confirmed by the American rep. that they must transfer you after that request. I've tried it on a half a dozen major companies including cable, bank, phone and mortgage companies. It works every time and I actually get my issues taken care of. Try to remember this every time you have to talk with a customer service representative that you cannot understand! As a side note, to help save even more jobs...don't use the automated check out lanes they are pushing at the big stores. Once again I found out that if we use those check outs rather than cashiers, people lose their jobs too. I've refused to use the automated check outs and have had two cashiers already thank me for help saving their job.

Wolfram Alpha - Site of the Week - May 18th, 2009

First, sorry for the lateness to my Site of the Week article for this week. You will see why as you read on. Enjoy! My Site of the Week is a brand new website that just came out today. I have been watching this site from the get go and have been waiting for it to come out. You might now what it is, you might not. For those who don't know what Wolfram Alpha is, here is what the website's about page says; sums it up pretty well:
Wolfram|Alpha's long-term goal is to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone. We aim to collect and curate all objective data; implement every known model, method, and algorithm; and make it possible to compute whatever can be computed about anything. Our goal is to build on the achievements of science and other systematizations of knowledge to provide a single source that can be relied on by everyone for definitive answers to factual queries. Wolfram|Alpha aims to bring expert-level knowledge and capabilities to the broadest possible range of people—spanning all professions and education levels. Our goal is to accept completely free-form input, and to serve as a knowledge engine that generates powerful results and presents them with maximum clarity. Wolfram|Alpha is an ambitious, long-term intellectual endeavor that we intend will deliver increasing capabilities over the years and decades to come. With a world-class team and participation from top outside experts in countless fields, our goal is to create something that will stand as a major milestone of 21st century intellectual achievement.
I have been testing this site out today (the reason this article is coming out later than usual), giving it the Kyle Reddoch work around...LOL and I have to say, it passes!! This site is exactly what they say. Get help with math, chemistry, physics, geography, units and measurements, etc. Never be found in the lost again. So what are you waiting for, head on over to Wolfram Alpha and get expert level knowledge at your fingertips! ~ Kyle Reddoch
