DROID Incredible Offered Tomorrow as Best Buy’s Free Phone Friday Promo

Best Buy has announced its final set of “Free Phone Friday” devices and one of our family members is featured. The Droid Incredible, arguably the best Droid phone on the planet, will be available for free at BB stores as long as you sign up for a contract extension or add a new line. How exciting is that? On the heels of the Samsung Fascinate, I hope you all haven’t already locked yourselves into to new contracts!

The Samsung Vibrant is also featured as a second Android device.

Anyone gassing up the ol’ rig for tomorrow’s Best Buy trip?

Android 2.3 -- and Android 3.0.1 -- are starting to ping websites

Android

Android 2.3 -- which we told you last week will indeed be Gingerbread -- is starting to show up in Google Analytics logs. Our pals at Android and Me are seeing them, as are we. And while it's impossible to know what phone they're coming from -- it's what's at the bottom of our list that's piqued our interest even more.

Yep, that's Android 3.0.1, which made an appearance last week before going dark again. Now how real is that? Unknown. Could be kids looking to cause trouble. Seeing Gingerbread pop up isn't that surprising, but seeing the next version -- tentatively code named Honeycomb -- appear? That's downright intriguing. Discuss.

Verizon giving away the HTC Merge as part of 'Urban Challenge' in Seattle

HTC Merve

The HTC Merge is still very much unofficial, not having been announced by either HTC or Verizon. So imagine our surprise when it shows up on the prize list for the Verizon Urban Challenge. In fact, Verizon is giving away six of the Android 2.2 sliders on Saturday. Here's the deal, according to Verizon:

[The Urban Challenge is] a rat race through the fair city of Seattle. A grueling test of head-to-toe and between-the-ears strength. An unpredictable, multi-stage contest against 49 teams all with a ravenous appetite for the same dish-1st place. Or maybe it's the cash and HTC smartphone. Either way, grab the closest relative, girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend, neighbor, or stranger and snag one of the 50 spots while you still can.

The first-place team wins $3,000 case, a pair of Merges, and a couple of $125 Verizon gift cards. Second place wins $1,500, plus the phones and gift cards, and third place gets $500 plus the phones and gift cards.

Another Flash 10.1 Security Advisory Issued, Update Coming on November 9th

Another security advisory has been issued for Adobe’s Flash 10.1, along with its Reader and Acrobat programs.  There has been a vulnerability discovered in Reader and Acrobat that is being “actively” exploited.  Luckily for us, there have not been any reports of attacks through Flash, so you have no reason to freak out immediately.  Adobe plans to release a update for Flash on Android November 9th to fix the exploit.

This isn’t the first time we have seen one of these advisories and we’re guessing it won’t be the last.  At least they are as proactive as they can be with these announcements, right?  Welcome to the unfortunate world of internet hackory.

Dolphin Browser Bumps Up to Version 4.0

Untitled3-300x263

After what may have seemed like an eternity for users sold on Dolphin Browser enough to stick with the browser through a buggy version 3.0, Dolphin Browser HD 4.0 has just reached the Android Market bringing fixes and enhancements out the wazoo.

OK, maybe they aren’t literally dripping out of the wazoo, but some pretty big fixes are included in the update, like the anxious side bar that seemed to jump out with almost no prompting, the inability to click links at the top of a page, and the addition of multi-language support and a bookmarks folder. Grab it in the market now!
