DROID X Battery Pull Tab Changed, Is this Clear Enough?

When the Droid X first launched, there was some confusion surrounding the battery pull tab and whether or not it should be removed.  In fact, there was even a little rumor suggesting removal of the tab would be grounds for instant warranty cancellation.

Good news though!  As you can see from the shot above, new DX devices are shipping with a much clearer pull tab featuring 2 logos to remind you not to cut or remove.  Silly.

And is the previous version…

Anyone remove their pull tab?

Nexus One gets a new software leak, Froyo version FRG33

Nexus One

The Nexus One will never die.  Today we see an new software leak, in the form of a complete packaged ROM (courtesy of Football @ xda) with the FRG33 tag on board.  I haven't had a chance to load it up just yet, but the few that have say it seems a bit faster, has the new radio that was in the Korean Nexus One launch, but doesn't have the new Google apps on board.

If you're feeling adventurous, hit the source link and give it a whirl.  Be sure to let us know how it turns out in the forums! [xda-developers] Thanks, Daniel, for the tip!

Adobe Says Not All Froyo Equipped Devices Will Run Flash

Although you suspect, that all 2.2 devices will be able to run Flash 10.1, Adobe says that is not always the case. Devices will be required to have minimum specs to be able to run the plug-in. Adobe’s website clearly shows that devices that have a VGA screen, need to at least be running a 550Mhz processor with hardware vector FPU support.

On top of that, displays that have WVGA need to have a dedicated Cortex A8 800MHz processor, also with the hardware vector FPU support. These listed devices should have support for Flash 10.1 currently, Google Nexus One, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Desire, and Motorola Droid, Droid 2 and Droid X. Even though most of the top end phones will have the option to have Flash run on them, there are still plenty of phones coming out later this year that will not meet the minimum specifications, Adobe has mentioned. We like to think it is probably better off anyways because Flash on a lower end device would not be the best user experience.

Samsung ‘Prioritizing’ Android Ahead of Windows Phone 7 and Its Own Bada

samsung-android-logo

In a recent disucssion with Reuters that took place at IFA, Samsung head of marketing for their mobile division YH Lee asserted the companies commitment to Android as its main smartphone focus. Lee said, “we are prioritizing our Android platform” due to the operating system being “very open and flexible.” He also noted high consumer demand for the platform that has quickly risen as a prime challenger against Apple’s iOS.

This doesn’t mean they are counting out their own Bada OS which they still plan to focus on heavily outside of North American markets, but when mentions of Windows Phone 7 arose Lee seemed to relegate the OS to “professional, specialized” situations. Samsung’s stance shouldn’t come as a surprise, especially after their Android-based Galaxy Tab was one of the biggest stories emerging from this year’s IFA.

White Vibrant Skin and Paint Mod

White Vibrant Skin and Paint Mod

If you own a Samsung Vibrant but want to stand out from the crowd, have a look at the skin and paint mod that XDA forum member juggamonkey has applied to his Vibrant.

The XDA member has applied a white skin to the front of the Android device, painted the back cover white and applied an Android logo decal on the back.

The white skin was taken from a decal kit purchased on eBay, and the back was sprayed using some krylon plastic spray paint in high gloss white.  The surface was prepped by sanding with fine sandpaper then applying three coats of the krylon spray paint.  The XDA member states that thirty minutes to an hour of drying time betweens coats is necessary plus a clear coat which provides some grip to the device.

For more pics and information on how to apply the mod yourself, check out the modification thread.
